The Governing Body

Philip Johnson  - Co-opted Governor

Chair of Governors

Safeguarding, Attendance and Health and Safety

My name is Phil Johnson and I have been a governor for over 20 years and served as a Chair of Governors for over 10 years.  I am currently the governor responsible for overseeing safeguarding within another school as well as aspects of SEND.  I have represented the board of governors at Patch meetings and currently sit on Warwickshire Schools Forum and Governor Forum Steering Group.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  I have worked in production and operations management for over 30 years in a variety of industries and currently work as an environmental consultant, so I am able to contribute project management and leadership skills to the board of governors.

Helen Martin - LA Appointed Governor

Vice Chair of Governors

Leadership and Management, Monitoring and CPD

My name is Helen Martin and I am the Vice Chair of Governors at Stockingford Primary School. I am also Executive Director of the Gateway Alliance which is a school company based in Warwickshire which provides training and support to primary schools across the county and beyond.  My background spans both private and public sector but most recently has been working in and with primary schools in Warwickshire.  I have also worked for a Local Authority and a national government agency supporting recruitment, retention and workforce development. I have two primary age children of my own and am passionate about how I can help Stockingford be the best that it can be.

John Evans - Co-opted Governor

Sports Premium and Maths

My name is John Evans, I came to Nuneaton half a century ago to teach Stockingford children. Newly-qualified, I became head of History at Alderman Smith School, a position I held for six years, until 1974. I then moved to Cardinal Wiseman School in Coventry, where I remained until leaving teaching in 1989. Along the way I became involved in our local community, first as a Youth  club assistant at Alderman Smith Y.C., then as fixtures Secretary of the Nuneaton Sunday League, and finally as Secretary of Nuneaton Borough (1973-86).

After a two and a half year spell as part-time secretary of Northampton Town, I became Secretary/Company Secretary (and later director) of West Bromwich Albion. This was when I left teaching. I remained there until I retired in 2007.                                                                                                                                                                                                                      My interest in education led to me becoming a governor at Attleborough School in 1993, and when amalgamation with Swinnerton School took place in 1996 I became a founder-governor of the new Wembrook Primary School. Originally vice-Chair of governors, I have been Chair since 2000.                                                                                                               In 2006 I became a founder-governor of Sandwell Academy (West Bromwich) and served there for eight years. I joined the re-vamped Stockingford governing body in July 2017, and became vice-Chair earlier this year. My early impressions of the school, its staff, and its pupils have been entirely positive and I look forward to supporting it to the best of my ability.

Roger Tweed - Co-opted Governor

English, Foundation Subjects and Pupil Premium

My name is Roger Tweed and I am delighted to have been asked to be a governor of Stockingford School. I have a long association with the school through my current role as a Moderating Tutor employed part time by Warwick University, assessing the quality of education delivered by trainee teachers placed in the school by the university. I have visited the school six times a year for the last 7 years and during that time come to hold great admiration for the staff and pupils of the school.

I have experience of education having been Headteacher of several schools and employment as an education officer in a neighbouring authority.

I look forward to using some of my time now I have retired supporting the school to achieve its highest goals and to become the excellent education provider the young people and community of Stockingford deserve.
